Summer is a busy time for garden shed burglars. All householders need to check their sheds and make sure they are locked up and made as secure as possible.
There are lots of ways to increase the chances of your expensive gardening equipment staying safe. One way is to take protect your most valuable pieces of equipment is to take them into the house at night.
To strengthen your shed security make good use of locks, alarms and chains.

Fit the shed with a toughened hasp, secured by smooth coachbolts which are fastened through the wood to a metal plate, making them impossible to rip out

Secure with a tough padlock

Fit a padlocked bolt at the top of the door to make it difficult to force the wood

If your shed has weak hinges and replace them with stronger ones attached to the shed with bolts

Install an alarm inside to wake up the neighbours if someone gets in

Chain your belongings together inside the shed and lock the chain to a secure fastening within the shed

Black out shed windows to prevent burglars seeing the contents inside

Increase the surrounding security by fitting security lights in the garden and padlocking the back gate

Do not leave patio furniture lying around that burglars can use to help hoist your property over the wall or fence
